2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)butyric Acid (DMBA) (CAS: 10097-02-6), DMBA with two active hydroxymethyl groups neopentyl carboxylic acid, thus can be used as a synthesis of waterborne polymer systems, which can be widely used in water soluble polyurethane, polyester, epoxy resin, etc. DMBA has better solubility than DMPA in different solvents, so DMBA can greatly improve the efficiency of the work. DMBA is regarded as the waterborne polyurethane, as a new generation of green type chain extender and inner emulsifier to the produce waterborne polyurethane adhesive that need not use organic solvents and zero organic residues. There are not problems about high melting point, slow dissolution, long reaction time, high energy consumption, poor product performance, the need to join the organic solvent, solvent residues, ect from DMPA. DMBA also be used in the manufacture of waterborne epoxy resin, polyester adhesive. DMBA is the best multifuction modifier (hydrophilic chain extender) to use for waterborne polyurethane, waterborne resin, water-based adhesive, water-based paint and other water-based products. As monomer, in modified process, it need not to add any organic solvent (replace by water) for DMBA, it is the best effect as simple, stable production process. But DMPA is more widely used by the superior price in the field of waterbased products.
DMBA is a good crosslinking agent and hydrophilic agent, or used to produce water-based high molecule system, is widely used in water soluble PU system, polyester resin and epoxy ester. With good solubility, DMBA also is widely used in coating of water soluble PU system, adhesive and leather coating agent. DMBA will become a new kind of environment-friendly substitute of 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid.
